Attorney Pleads Guilty To Drug Charge
WICHITA, KAN. – An attorney from Cherokee County has pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Christopher Y. Meek, 58, Baxter Springs, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of Hydrocodone, a controlled substance. In his plea, he admitted he became the target of an investigation in 2009 when law enforcement officials received information that he was obtaining prescription medication from clients. Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents corroborated the reports when Meek met with a client and obtained prescription pain medication. Agents served a search warrant Sept. 1, 2009, at Meek’s law office, where they found 25 Hydrocodone tables in a desk drawer. Meek did not have a prescription for the medication.
He is set for sentencing May 16. He faces a maximum penalty of one year in federal prison and a fine up to $1,000. Grissom commended the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch for their work on the case.
