KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Ricardo Limon, 35, Riverside, Calif., has been sentenced to more than 235 months in federal prison on charges of trafficking in drugs in the metro Kansas City area.

Limon pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. During a four-day sentencing hearing this week, the government presented evidence that after Limon was charged in the case he threatened a witness.

Limon pleaded guilty to taking part in a drug trafficking ring that operated in 2008 and 2009 in Johnson County, Kan. He was arrested Nov. 13, 2009, with one pound of methamphetamine. He assisted in transporting and unloading methamphetamine and cocaine shipments and he transported drug proceeds in payment for methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana from Kansas to California. He also stayed with the drug shipments in Kansas at a stash house and hotels, serving as a translator for his fellow conspirators during numerous transactions involving narcotics.

During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors presented evidence that while Limon and other defendants were in federal custody on the drug charges Limon threatened other inmates to get them to sign affidavits stating that he was innocent. Defendants who signed the false affidavits believed they would be harmed unless they signed and they would be labeled as snitches.

Grissom commended the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, the California Southwest Border Task Force, the Utah Highway Patrol, the California Highway Patrol , the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken for their work on the case.
