TOPEKA, KAN. – A Salina man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for trafficking in methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Brandon David Swarts, 37, Salina, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. In his plea he admitted that in 2008 and 2009 he was part of a drug trafficking ring that distributed methamphetamine.

Swarts was one of more than 30 defendants indicted in 2009's Operation White Pistol, an investigation that targeted a drug trafficking organization with members in Great Bend, Salina, Lawrence, St. Marys and Kansas City, Kan. The traffickers were importing methamphetamine and other narcotics from Arizona to Kansas to be sold to buyers in the metro areas of Kansas City, Kan., Topeka and Great Bend. Investigators seized more than $600,000 in cash and 10 pounds of methamphetamine.

Grissom commended the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Salina Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Hough, as well as local law enforcement agencies that assisted in serving more than 32 search warrants in the case.
