Federal Charges Filed in Wichita Bank Robbery

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 23, 2011

WICHITA, KAN. – Brent A. Drees, 43, Wichita, Kan., is charged with robbing Emprise Bank in Wichita, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Drees was charged with one count of bank robbery in a criminal complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Wichita. The complaint alleged that on Sept. 22, 2011, Drees robbed the Emprise Bank at 3900 W. Central in Wichita. An agent’s affidavit alleges Drees gave a teller a note saying, “Give me $1,200 and you won’t get hurt,” or words to that effect.

Investigators identified Drees from surveillance photos taken at the bank. They arrested him at a house in the 600 block of North Mt. Carmel.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal court and a fine up to $250,000. The Wichita Police and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is prosecuting.

In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
