Wichita Men Convicted On Federal Drug Charges
WICHITA, KAN. – Two Wichita men have been convicted on federal charges of trafficking in methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Sergio Alvarez, 28, Wichita, was convicted on one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Co-defendant Mariano A. Herrera, 39, was convicted on one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. During trial, prosecutors presented evidence that in May 2011 they were engaged in distributing methamphetamine in the Wichita area.
Both men are set for sentencing July 11, 2011. The possession with intent to distribute charge carries a penalty of not less than 10 years and not more than life and a fine up to $10 million. The conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000.
Grissom commended the Wichita Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Blair Watson for their work on the case.
