Career Offender Gets 15 Years For Robbery
WICHITA, KAN. – A Wichita man with a record of prior felony convictions has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for robbery, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today. The sentence is consecutive to a state prison sentence he is serving.
Matthew L. Church, 29, Wichita, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of robbery. On July 22, 2011, he robbed the Papa Murphy’s store at 4813 E. Central in Wichita.
At sentencing, prosecutors said Church committed the robbery one day after escaping from the Sedgwick County Residential Center. After the robbery, Wichita police located Church and a car he had stolen at a residence in the 1100 block of North Harding. He was arrested as he tried to flee the house through a window. Prosecutors also noted that from 2005 to 2011 Church committed 12 felony crimes.
“Mr Church’s substantial criminal history demonstrates nothing less than a complete and utter lack of respect for the law,” Grissom said.
Grissom commended the Wichita Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Warner for their work on the case.
