Robberies in Topeka, Lawrence, Wichita
Earn Man A 14-Year Federal Prison Sentence

WICHITA, KAN. – A man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for robberies in Topeka, Lawrence and Wichita, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

David B. Johnson, 26, Lubbock, Texas, pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. In his plea he admitted committing the following robberies:

Jan. 23, 2012, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, 1570 SW Wanamaker, Topeka, Kan.
Jan. 26, 2012, Cirillas, an adult entertainment store, 1208 W. 23rd Street, Lawrence, Kan.
Jan. 27, 2012, Kwik Shop, 1114 NW Topeka Boulevard, Topeka, Kan.
Jan. 28, 2012, Subway Sandwich Shop, 343 South Greenwich Road, Kan.

Shortly after the robbery in Wichita, a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Johnson’s car at a Quick Trip at Harry and Webb. When the deputy turned on his emergency lights, Johnson’s car sped away. The chase lasted about half an hour, reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour before the car was stopped in Butler County and Johnson was arrested.

Grissom commended the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, the Wichita Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Warner for their work on the case.
