
U.S. Attorney's Statewide Civil Rights Symposium
Starts At 8 AM Friday
KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Admission is free to the U.S. Attorney’s second annual statewide Civil Rights Symposium, which begins at 8 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, in the General Education Building at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.
More than 100 community civil rights advocates and law enforcement officers from across the state are expected to attend the symposium, which will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will focus on federal civil rights enforcement in Kansas.
Featured speakers include:
Michelle Bramblett, Southern Poverty Law Center, speaking on hate groups.
David Ketchmark, Interim U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, speaking on hate crime case studies.
Mary Bohan, Deputy Chief of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, speaking on the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Kristy Parker, Deputy Chief of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, speaking on human trafficking.
N. Trip Shawver, retired lieutenant colonel, U.S. Air Force Reserve, speaking on civil rights for returning veterans.
