TOPEKA, KAN. – A Colorado man arrested on I-70 in Wabaunsee County, Kan., with more than a pound of methamphetamine has been sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Antonio Esquivel-Rios, 38, Westminster, Colo., was sentenced to 188 months in federal prison. In August 2011, a jury found Esquivel-Rios guilty of one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. During trial, prosecutors presented evidence that on May 11, 2010, a Kansas Highway Patrol officer stopped a gold Ford Windstar minivan that Esquivel-Rios was driving eastbound on I-70 in Wabaunsee County, Kan. Investigators found the methamphetamine in a cellophane-wrapped package hidden in an air vent in the dashboard.

Grissom commended the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot for their work on the case.
