Oct. 30, 2012

TOPEKA, KAN. – A Topeka man has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison on a federal firearms charge, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today. After he serves his sentence he’ll be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.

Felipe Vega-Ramos, 23, Topeka, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. In his plea, Vega-Ramos admitted that on various occasions in April 2012 members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force working in Topeka arranged to buy cocaine and methamphetamine from him. When they served a search warrant at his residence in Topeka, they found a .38 caliber pistol, a .22 caliber conversion kit, an apparent silencer and ammunition of various calibers.

Grissom commended the Topeka Police Department, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force and Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot for their work on the case.
