Graves County, Kentucky Men Sentenced For Possession And Distribution Of Methamphetamine
PADUCAH, Ky. – Two Graves County, Kentucky men were sentenced in United States District Court by Senior Judge Thomas B. Russell this week, after pleading guilty to multiple charges of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.
Daniel Copeland, age 33, of Wingo, Kentucky was sentenced to 100 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release after pleading guilty to four counts of a federal grand jury indictment on February 15, 2012. According to the plea agreement, between approximately March 18, 2011 and March 24, 2011 Copeland engaged in a conspiracy with Jacob Jackson to distribute methamphetamine.
Jacob Jackson, age 26, of Mayfield, Kentucky was sentenced to 87 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release after pleading guilty to four counts of a federal grand jury indictment on February 15, 2012. According to a separate plea agreement, Jackson’s role in the conspiracy was to distribute methamphetamine on behalf of Copeland. On March 18, 2011, March 21, 2011, and March 24, 2011, the Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) utilized a Confidential Source (CS) to purchase nearly 48 grams of actual methamphetamine from Jackson in exchange for nearly $4,500. During the deals, officers observed Jackson arrive in a grey pickup truck owned by Copeland and following the transaction with the CS, Jackson drove back to Copeland’s residence. During one transaction, Copeland rode with Jackson to the meeting location.
Copeland pled guilty to several additional charges occurring in August of 2010. According to the plea agreement, on August 11, 2010 and August 26, 2010, the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force (PNTF) utilized a Confidential Source (CS) to purchase methamphetamine from defendant Copeland in exchange for $450 and $460. On August 27, 2010 the PNTF and Drug Enforcement Administration utilized a CS to purchase 24.2 grams of actual methamphetamine from Copeland in exchange for $3,000.
This case was prosecuted by Robert B. Bonar and was investigated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the Kentucky State Police and the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force.
