BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - A Glasgow, Kentucky felon, formerly wanted in Kentucky and Tennessee, was sentenced in U.S. District Court yesterday, by Chief Judge Joseph H. McKinley, Jr. to serve 51 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for felon in possession of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

Scotty Reece, age 42, pleaded guilty to a two-count indictment charging that on October 4, 2011, Reece possessed a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver, Model 64-5, bearing serial number BJH8483 and six rounds of Winchester .38 special hollow point ammunition while being a convicted felon. In addition, Reece admitted to possession of a stolen weapon.

Reece is a convicted felon for several previous drug related convictions. At the time of his arrest, Reece faced several methamphetamine related charges in Barren County Circuit Court and Cumberland County Circuit Court. He was being held in Sumner County, Tennessee for multiple theft charges. At least one charge accused Reece of stealing cattle.

According to the factual basis for Reece’s guilty plea, on October 4, 2011, the U.S. Marshals Bowling Green Fugitive Task Force conducted an operation to arrest Scotty Reece. Kentucky State Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle based on probable cause that Scotty Reece, an individual with an outstanding warrant, was in the vehicle. KSP attempted to block the passenger door with their cruiser; however, Reece was able to exit the vehicle and slid across the hood of the cruiser while brandishing a firearm at the trooper. While inside his cruiser the trooper fired several rounds and struck Reece. Reece was taken into custody by several officers a short distance from the cruiser. A loaded Smith and Wesson, .38 caliber revolver was recovered near where Reece was taken into custody. The firearm was loaded with 6 rounds of Winchester .38 special hollow point ammunition. The revolver was stolen from a man in Texas. Reece knew or had reasonable cause to believe that the firearm had been stolen.

Criminal records indicate Reece has at least two felony convictions, (1) Metcalfe County Circuit Court Case # 99-CR-0007 - Complicity to Trafficking in a Controlled Substance - 2nd degree, where Reece received 5 years prison; and (2) Barren County Circuit Court Case # 06-CR-00348 – Possession of a controlled substance - 1st degree (methamphetamine), where REECE received 3 years prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Judd, and it was investigated by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
