
ILLEGAL ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT
GREGORIO GOMEZ, age 29, a resident of Mexico, pled guilty in federal court today before visiting U. S. District Judge Frederic Block of the Eastern District of New York to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal re-entry by a removed alien, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the factual basis, GOMEZ admitted that he had previously been deported and that on October 8, 2009, he was unlawfully found in the United States in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana without the proper consent. GOMEZ also admitted that he has a prior felony conviction.
The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of twenty (20) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for April 7, 2010.
The case was investigated by the U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
