BATON ROUGE MAN SENTENCED FOR KATRINA FRAUD
QUINN RISIN, age 26, a resident of Baton Rouge, was sentenced in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to serve (5) years probation for one count of Katrina related Mail Fraud, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition, the defendant was ordered to pay $10,391.51 in restitution to FEMA.
According to court documents, RISIN applied for FEMA disaster relief claiming his primary residence was on Ursulines Avenue in New Orleans and that the storm caused damage to his personal property when in fact the subject property was owned by another person and not occupied at the time of the storm. Based on his fraudulent claim, FEMA provided funds in the amount of $10,391.51 in response to RISIN’s claim that he needed disaster related assistance.
This case was investigated by the U. S. Postal Inspection Service and the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Julia K. Evans.
