THREE ALIENS INDICTED FOR ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY
RICARDO RIVERA-GOMEZ, age 26, EDWARD ALEXANDER ANDINO-GIRON, age 26, and SANTOS SAUL EXCOTO-MURILLO, age 52, all residents of Honduras, were charged in three separate one-count indictments by a Federal Grand Jury for illegal re-entry by an alien previously removed, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on or about April 27, 2010, EXCOTO, an alien who had previously been removed and deported from the United States, was found in the United States, in Orleans Parish, within the Eastern District of Louisiana, without having obtained consent from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reapply for admission to the United States. RIVERA and ANDINO are charged with committing the same offense one day later, on April 28, 2010, in Jefferson Parish.
If convicted, RIVERA, ANDINO and EXCOTO each face a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a fine of $250,000.00 and one year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
These cases were investigated as part of a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation known as Operation Cross Check Southeast. This operation targeted convicted criminal aliens throughout the Southeastern United States. United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement was assisted in this operation by the United States Marshal’s Service and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
These cases are being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
