ANTHONY BENJAMIN, age 41, a resident of Marrero, Louisiana, was sentenced this past Wednesday in federal court by U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to over 14 years (170 months) imprisonment for federal drug and gun violations, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Engelhardt imposed five (5) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

On April 7, 2010, BENJAMIN pled guilty admitting that on March 17, 2008, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant on March 17, 2008 at BENJAMIN’s residence in Marrero. During the search, detectives discovered approximately 970 grams of powder cocaine, 82 grams of crack cocaine, and two semi-automatic pistols. BENJAMIN has a previous conviction and is prohibited from possessing firearms. After sentencing, BENJAMIN was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with officers of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
