RUBIN EDGARDO HERNANDEZ-MADRID, age 31, a citizen of Honduras, was charged in a criminal complaint today with illegally exporting a firearm to Honduras, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the criminal complaint, in March, 2010, HERNANDEZ-MADRID possessed a firearm and attempted to export it to Honduras via a local shipping company by disassembling it and concealing the parts (along with two magazines) in foil and a tube of grease and then co-mingling them within a box of household goods.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000.00, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the complaint is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This investigation was conducted by Special Agents of U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
