NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL GUN CHARGES
CHARLES S. LARVINETTE, a/k/a “Chedda,” age 21, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty yesterday in federal court before U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to a one-count indictment for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to factual basis, after receiving information that the defendant was in possession of numerous firearms, NOPD conducted surveillance on LARVINETTE’s residence. On May 25, 2010, officers noticed the defendant appear to adjust something in his waistband as he exited his residence to get into a vehicle. When officers conducted a traffic stop, they discovered that LARVINETTE was in possession of a Glock Model 17, 9mm caliber pistol. Additionally, LARVINETTE was previously convicted on July 31, 2009, in Orleans Parish for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon–Second Conviction. LARVINETTE was also on probation at the time he possessed the firearm and as such.
LARVINETTE faces a maximum possible sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three (3) years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for February 9, 2011.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
