METAIRIE WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO THEFT OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS
STELLA GRISBAUM, age 54, of Metairie, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court today before U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to theft of government funds, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, GRISBAUM’s mother was receiving social security benefits before her death. When she died, these benefits should have terminated. GRISBAUM admitted today that she continued to receive the benefits, which were directly deposited into a bank account accessed by GRISBAUM, and converted to her personal use knowing that she was not entitled to receive those benefits.
GRISBAUM faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is set for February 10, 2011.
The case was investigated by the United States Social Security Administration- Office of Inspector General, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
