HOUMA MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 27 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR DRUG AND GUN CHARGES
MICHAEL MAHONEY, 28, a resident of Houma, was sentenced in federal court yesterday by U. S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey to over 27 years (332 months) for drug distribution and and gun charges, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on April 21, 2010, MICHAEL MAHONEY pled guilty admitting that on March 26, 2009 he distributed fifty grams or more of crack cocaine to an undercover agent. Additionally, on April 2, 2009, after receiving information that MAHONEY was preparing cocaine for distribution, agents executed a search warrant on the defendant’s home. As a result of the search, agents executed a search warrant of MAHONEY’s home in Houma and found drug paraphernalia, 28.12 grams of crack, approximately 47 grams of marijuana along with marijuana plants in the backyard of the residence, and an Uzi brand .40 caliber semi automatic pistol. Later that evening, MAHONEY distributed 48.4 grams of crack to a confidential informant. MAHONEY also admitted that he has a previous conviction in March, 2002 for possession of crack cocaine in South Carolina.
The investigation is being conducted by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre’ Jones.
