NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO 46 MONTHS FOR FEDERAL GUN CHARGE
MARCUS D. McKNIGHT, age 35, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Court Judge Carl J. Barbier to 46 months imprisonment for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on approximately June 10, 2010, McKNIGHT was in possession of a 9 mm rifle. McKNIGHT has two previous convictions, one for possession of cocaine on July 13, 1995 in City of Hampton, Virginia and one for distribution of cocaine on August 29, 2006, in Hall County, Georgia. As such, McKNIGHT was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
