ST. JOHN PARISH MAN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON FOR FEDERAL DRUG AND GUN VIOLATIONS
LOUIS BOYD, JR. 55, a resident of New Sarpy, was sentenced today in federal court by U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to twenty-five (25) years (300 months) after being convicted of eight counts of federal drug and gun violations, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court document, LOUIS BOYD, JR. was convicted after a two day trial in July 2010 of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fifty grams or more of cocaine base, four counts of distribution of a quantity of cocaine base, one count of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of cocaine base, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. This conviction is the result of an investigation into drug activity in the Norco area by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. BOYD was one of approximately ninety people arrested from the investigation titled “Operation Sleighride.”
The investigation was conducted by Task Force Officers of the Drug Enforcement Administration and St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre’ Jones and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian J. Capitelli.
