ALIEN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTING TO SMUGGLE FIREARMS PARTS FROM THE UNITED STATES
RUBIN EDGARDO HERNANDEZ-MADRID, age 32, a citizen of Honduras, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey to ten (10) months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Zainey ordered that HERNANDEZ be placed on two (2) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, on March 22, 2011, HERNANDEZ pled guilty to one count of an indictment admitting that in March 2010, he fraudulently and knowingly concealed and facilitated the transportation of firearms parts, with the intent to export those goods from the United States to Honduras, contrary to law.
The case was investigated by agents of the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with the assistance of the the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
