ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL GUN CHARGE AND AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT
YORDANY SUERO, age 32, a resident of the Dominican Republic, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to a total of fifty (50) months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Berrigan ordered that SUERO be placed on three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, on March 30, 2011, SUERO, an illegal alien, pled guilty to one count of aiding, abetting, and assisting others in engaging in the business of dealing nine firearms without a license. SUERO also pled guilty to one count for possessing and using a Social Security card that belonged to another person, without lawful authority, during his offense of falsely claiming to be a United States citizen.
The investigation was conducted by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with the assistance of U. S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
