NORTHSHORE MAN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL GUN VIOLATION

WILLIE M. WILLIAMS, age 31, a resident of Hammond, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by United States District Court Judge Carl J. Barbier to over five (5) years (70 months) of incarceration for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to incarceration, WILLIAMS was also sentenced to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks additional imprisonment if he violates the terms of the supervision.

According to court documents, on August 19, 2006, WILLIAMS was in possession of a Rossi, Model 88–2 (Model 88), .38 special revolver in the Eastern District of Louisiana. He pulled the firearm during an altercation with a local resident and was arrested by the Independence Police Department. WILLIAMS was previously convicted on December 9, 2006, in the 21st Judicial District Court for the Parish of Tangipahoa for Simple Robbery, a felony. As such, WILLIAMS was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Louisiana State Police, the Independence Police Department, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera.
