CLIFTON HOLMES, JR., age 40, a resident of Greensburg, Louisiana, pled guilty today in federal court before U. S. District Judge Stanwood R. Duval, Jr., to a two-count indictment for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to a factual basis filed in federal court today, on April 23, 2011, HOLMES’ probation officer conducted a search of HOLMES’ vehicle and discovered a 9mm pistol and .22 caliber long rifle bullets. Under federal law, HOLMES was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition because he had previously been convicted of a felony. HOLMES was on state probation at the time he unlawfully possessed the firearm and the ammunition.

HOLMES faces a maximum possible sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000.00 fine, and three (3) years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for December 21, 2011.

The case was investigated by the LA State Probation Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Abe McGull.
