
ILLEGAL ALIEN INDICTED FOR FALSE STATEMENT TO U.S. CITIZENSHIP AND ILLEGAL USE OF A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
YONI JAVIER SANTOS-BUSTILLO, age 28, a citizen of Honduras, was charged in a two-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for making a false statement or claim to U.S. citizenship and for misuse of a social security number, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on or about August 14, 2008, SANTOS an alien in the United States knowingly made a false statement or claim that he was a United States citizen in order to obtain a Louisiana Identification Card. Also according to court documents SANTOS falsely represented that a social security number was assigned to him, in order to obtain a Louisiana Identification Card, when in fact the social security number had not been assigned to him.
If convicted, SANTOS faces on each count, a maximum term of imprisonment of five years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Joe La Rocca.
