Man indicted and arrested for possession of gasoline bomb
Jim Letten, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, announced today, that JAMES J. TREGLER, 54, of New Orleans, LA, was arrested today by Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive agents based on a capias issued by the Federal District Court after a Federal Grand Jury sitting in the Eastern District of Louisiana returned, on November 3, 2011, a one (1) count indictment against TREGLER. The indictment charges TREGLER with possession of an unregistered destructive device; i.e. a “gasoline bomb” on May 4, 2011, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to court documents, TREGLER attempted to destroy his truck with a “gasoline bomb” but the candles used as a fuse failed to ignite the gasoline.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case was investigated jointly by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) along with detectives from the New Orleans Police Department and Arson investigators of the New Orleans Fire Department. This case is being prosecuted by Tony Sanders of the Violent Crimes Unit.
