ILLEGAL ALIEN INDICTED FOR POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION BY A PROHIBITED PERSON
CELIO PERAZA, age 28, a citizen of Honduras, was charged in a seven-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for possession of firearms and ammunition by a prohibited person, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on or about January 21, 2012, PERAZA an alien illegally and unlawfully in the United States, did knowingly possess firearms, specifically, a Remington 16 gauge shotgun; a New England Firearm, 410 gauge shotgun; and a Cobra .380 handgun, as well as, ammunition, specifically, twenty-five 16 gauge shotgun shells; fifty 410 gauge shotgun shells; one hundred twenty-five 357 Magnum shells; and five .380 shells.
If convicted, PERAZA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Joe La Rocca.
