TWILLIAM THOMAS DRISCOLL, age 66, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was recently charged by criminal complaint in the Eastern District of Louisiana with knowingly and willfully threatening to kill a former President or a major candidate for the office of President, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to a complaint and arrest warrant issued by the Court on March 6, 2012, the New Orleans Field Office of the U. S. Secret Service received a complaint from a local psychiatric facility where DRISCOLL had committed himself. While at that facility, DRISCOLL made verbal threats to kill former President George W. Bush and Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney.

Further investigation revealed that DRISCOLL has made multiple threats, dating back to 1982, to kill or harm Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and William J. Clinton.

Today, DRISCOLL appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Daniel E. Knowles, III, in the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He was ordered detained pending a detention hearing which is scheduled for Friday, March 23, 2012.

If convicted, DRISCOLL faces a maximum term of five (5) years imprisonment, and a $250,000.00 fine.

This case is being investigated by the United States Secret Service and prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Tracey N. Knight.
