CHANEL CARTER AND HOXIE MARCELIN INDICTED FOR FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

CHANEL CARTER, age 37, and HOXIE MARCELIN, age 38, both of New Orleans, Louisiana, were charged yesterday in a four count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), distribution of cocaine base (crack), possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack) and possession with intent to distribute cocaine base (crack), announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

If convicted of the indictment, CARTER and MARCELIN face a term of imprisonment of life, a maximum fine of $8,000,000.00, and at least eight (8) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten reiterated that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the accused must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Abe McGull of Violent Crime Unit is prosecuting the case.
