ALEXY LAGUNA-MORAN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTING TO SHIP A FIREARM WITHOUT WRITTEN NOTICE TO A CONTRACT CARRIER
ALEXY LAGUNA-MORAN, age 38, a citizen of Nicaragua, was sentenced yesterday in federal court by U. S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle to twelve (12) months and one day imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemelle ordered that LAGUNA be placed on one year of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should she violate any terms of her supervised release.
According to court documents, on September 4, 2012, LAGUNA, pled guilty to having knowingly delivered a Taurus Model 83, .38 caliber revolver to a contract carrier in Kenner for shipment in foreign commerce to an unlicensed person in Nicaragua, without providing written notice to the contract carrier that the shipment contained a firearm. LAGUNA is presently in the United States without any legal immigration status.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations (ICE). The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
