Mumphrey Sentenced
BATON ROUGE MAN SENTENCED FOR FIREARM AND DRUG OFFENSES
BATON ROUGE, LA – United States Attorney Donald J. Cazayoux, Jr. announced yesterday that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Brian A. Jackson sentenced Gregory Mumphrey, age 33, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to a term of imprisonment of 180 months, two years supervised release after imprisonment, and imposed a $15,000 fine. Mumphrey was sentenced pursuant to the Armed Career Criminal Act due to his extensive criminal history involving crimes of violence and drug possession. Mumphrey had previously pled guilty to three counts of burglary of an inhabited dwelling, as well as one count of possession of Ecstasy.
On October 21, 2011 Mumphrey brandished a handgun at a local night club and threatened a club patron. During a scuffle that ensued, the club’s security guard retrieved the handgun from Mumphrey. He was arrested and subsequently charged in a federal indictment.
United States Attorney Cazayoux stated, “This successful prosecution would not have happened without the diligent and coordinated effort of the Baton Rouge Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This sentence should send a warning to repeat offenders that their continued criminal conduct will be met with stiff sentences.”
This matter was investigated by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Louisiana, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Baton Rouge Police Department. The matter was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lyman E. Thornton III.
