SPRINGFIELD, MA - A Springfield man was sentenced late yesterday in federal court for Conspiracy, Distribution of Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Steven Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division, announced that RODDRICK GANIOUS, 30, of Springfield, Mass., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to 68 months years imprisonment, to be followed by four years of supervised release. GANIOUS pled guilty to Conspiracy, Distribution of Cocaine and Possession with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of Cocaine on September 2, 2009.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that the defendant had sold over 100 grams of cocaine to a cooperating witness on one occasion in February 2006 and that he had obtained over 700 grams of cocaine from his co-conspirators in August 2006 for the purpose of re-selling the drugs to lower level dealers in the Springfield area.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant and Michelle Dineen Jerrett of Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Unit.
