HYDE PARK MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT FROM NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
BOSTON, Mass. - A Hyde Park man was charged today in federal court with using government credit cards to make unauthorized purchases of gas for his personal vehicles.
ALPHONISO ALLEN, 54, of Hyde Park, was charged in a one-count Information with theft of government property. The Information alleges that Allen worked as a mechanic for the National Park Service in Charlestown. The General Services Administration (GSA) provides leased vehicles to various federal agencies and assigns a credit card to be used for the purchase of fuel and minor maintenance for that vehicle. The Information alleges that, between October 2004 and August 2010, Allen used credit cards which had been issued to the GSA and assigned to vehicles provided to the National Park Service, to purchase over $10,000 worth of fuel for his personal vehicles.
If convicted on this charge, Allen faces up to 10 years imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Luis A. Hernandez, Special Agent in Charge of the General Services Administration, Office of Inspector General for the Boston Resident Office made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristina E. Barclay of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit.
The details contained in the Information are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
