SANDWICH PEDIATRICIAN INDICTED FOR TAX EVASION
BOSTON, Mass. - A Sandwich man was charged today in federal court with tax evasion.
TORREY A. TOLTIN, 58, of East Sandwich, was charged with multiple counts of tax evasion, willful failure to file tax returns, and interference with the administration of the Internal Revenue laws.
The indictment alleges that TOLTIN, a physician, owns and operates Sandwich Pediatrics with his wife and that from 2003-2008, he received substantial income. It is alleged that TOLTIN has not filed a federal income tax return since 2001 and has taken steps to impede the IRS’s assessment and collection of his income tax by, among other things, depositing his business receipts into a nominee bank account that he established in 2007.
If convicted on these charges, TOLTIN faces up to five years imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and William Offord, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation in Boston made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori J. Holik of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
