WORCESTER MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF FIREARMS WITH OBLITERATED SERIAL NUMBERS
BOSTON, Mass...A Worcester man was convicted today in federal court of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
MARCEL BECKER, 22, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV to two counts of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. At today’s plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that on January 8, 2010, Becker sold two firearms with obliterated serial numbers to an undercover agent in exchange for $1,200.
Judge Saylor scheduled sentencing for December 14, 2011. Becker faces up to five years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine on each count.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Guy Thomas, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms - Boston Field Office made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cory Flashner of Ortiz’s Worcester Branch Office Unit.
