BOSTON - Following a week-long trial in federal court, a jury today convicted a Quincy man of robbing a Brockton bank in 2010.
Michael R. Burns, 28, was convicted of committing armed bank robbery at the Harbor One Credit Union in Brockton. On Sept. 4, 2010, Burns entered the Harbor One Credit Union wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, dark sunglasses, a white mask over his face, black pants, and white latex gloves. He was also carrying two maroon pillow cases and was brandishing a handgun, which later turned out to be a BB gun. Burns demanded money from the bank tellers and handed the assistant teller supervisor one of the maroon pillow cases to collect money from other tellers. After the pillow case was filled with cash and returned to him, Burns fled the credit union. Burns was caught a short time later next to the maroon pillow case containing $21,816 in cash, and the BB gun.
Burns faces up to 25years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, restitution and a $250,000 fine. The sentencing has been scheduled for October 23, 2012.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Maxim Grinberg and David G. Tobin of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
