Boston - A Dighton man was charged yesterday in federal court with filing false tax returns.
The indictment alleges that David J. Woods, 63, under-reported the gross business receipts and sales generated by his business, Woods Tax & Accounting Service, on his own individual federal tax returns from 2006 through 2009.
If convicted, Woods faces up to three years in prison, to be followed by one year of supervised release and a $100,000 fine.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and William P. Offord, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori J. Holik of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
