Temple Hills Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison On Gun and Drug Charges

Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. sentenced Jerry Wayne Beasley, aka “Jay Beasley,” age 36, of Temple Hills, Maryland, today to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Acting Special Agent in Charge Marino F. Vidoli of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; and Chief Mark A. Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

According to Beasley’s plea agreement, on July 7, 2011, the Prince George’s Police Department, Narcotics Enforcement Division, executed a search warrant at Beasley’s residence and recovered, among other things, 285.1 grams of marijuana, $1,386 in cash, two digital scales, zip-lock bags and other drug paraphernalia, a loaded Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun, a loaded AMT .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, and ammunition for both firearms. Most of the marijuana, the scales and baggies, and the firearms, were located in a backpack found in a bedroom closet.

Beasley was arrested at the scene. After being read his Miranda rights, Beasley provided a written statement to the police, acknowledging that he sold marijuana from the apartment to make a living and that the marijuana found in the apartment belonged to him; that “some” of the money seized was profits from marijuana sales; and that the backpack and the guns belonged to him.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF and Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in this investigation and thanked Assistant United States Attorney Arun G. Rao, who prosecuted the case.
