Bank Robber Sentenced to Five Years in Federal Prison
Robbed Four Banks
Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. sentenced James Ray Pate, age 33, of Phoenix, Arizona today to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for bank robbery, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Williams also ordered Pate to pay restitution of $5,682.
According to his guilty plea, on July 7, 2006 Pate entered the Washington Mutual Savings Bank in Gold Hill, Oregon, handed a bank teller a note demanding money and stating that he had a gun, and fled with $1,492. Using a similar method, Pate stole $3,000 from the Home Federal Bank in Mountain Home, Idaho on July 17; $390 from the Northstar Bank in Roseville, Minnesota on August 30; and $800 from the Provident Bank on Frederick Road in Germantown, Maryland on September 17. Pate was arrested on September 22, 2006 in Delaware, and subsequently admitted to these robberies.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Montgomery County Police Department for their investigative work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Barbara Skalla, who prosecuted the case.
