Capitol Heights Drug Felon Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison For Drug and Gun Offenses

Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Roger W. Titus sentenced William Henry Draine, age 46, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, today to 15 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and being a felon in possession of ammunition and a firearm. Judge Titus enhanced Draine’s sentence upon finding that Draine is both a career offender and an armed career criminal based on four previous drug and armed robbery convictions, and because he possessed a firearm and ammunition in relation to a drug offense.

“A violent offender who has four prior convictions and possesses a firearm does not belong on the streets,” says ATF Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop. “We are proud to be in such a successful partnership with the Prince George’s County Police Department and the United States Attorney’s Office, so that these habitual offenders face the federal gavel.”

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; and Chief Mark Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

According to Draine’s guilty plea, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Draine’s residence and seized: 4.2 grams of heroin packaged in separate baggies, a digital scale and other items commonly used to sell drugs, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic firearm and 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a loaded. 38 Special/.357 Magnum firearm and 45 rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition, and $22,961. Draine was previously convicted of a felony offense which prohibited him from possessing firearms and ammunition.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF and the Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Arun G. Rao and Jonathan Lenzner, who prosecuted the case.
