Daniel Laurey Exiled to over 21 Years in Federal Prison for Distribution of Crack Cocaine

Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Daniel Laurey, age 31, of Baltimore today to 262 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Motz enhanced Laurey’s sentence upon finding that he is a career offender based on three previous convictions for possession with intent to distribute drugs, assault with intent to murder and assault.

According to the guilty plea, on November 2, 2006, Baltimore Police executed a search warrant at Laurey’s home on Violet Avenue in Baltimore after a confidential source had previously purchased cocaine from Laurey at that location. The search recovered the following items located in the front bedroom: various paperwork in Laurey’s name; a digital scale used for weighing drug quantities; drug packaging material; over 280 grams of cocaine base, commonly called crack; over 200 grams of marijuana; and a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy, the Baltimore City Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Wallner, who is prosecuting the case.
