Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams, Jr., sentenced Anthony Bragdon, age 38, of District Heights, Maryland, today to 64 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for two commercial armed robberies.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks; and Interim Chief Mark Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

“We are committed to making Maryland a safer place,” says ATF Special Agent in Charge Theresa Stoop, “and we are confident that with Mr. Bragdon’s sentencing, we have made an impact on public safety in Prince George’s County.”

According to Bragdon’s guilty plea, on July 17, 2009, Bragdon, posing as a customer at the K-Mart store in Greenbelt, Maryland, approached the register with a watch, as if to make a purchase. Bragdon demanded money and reached into his waistband, implying that he had a gun, then reached into the register and took $689.

Bragdon also admitted that on August 4, 2009, he robbed the BP Gas Station in Beltsville. Again, posing as a customer Bragdon approached a gas station employee and asked for prices of various items, while waiting for other customers to leave. Once the last customer left the area, Bragdon displayed what appeared to be a black handgun and demanded that the employee open the cash register. Bragdon jumped over the counter and stole $700 from the register, then escaped.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Prince George’s County Police Department and the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorney William D. Moomau, who prosecuted the case.
