Hagerstown Man Sentenced to More than 15 Years for Drug Dealing

Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles sentenced Thomas Wackman, age 24, of Hagerstown, Maryland, today to 188 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute marijuana, cocaine and cocaine base, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.

According to evidence presented at his four day trial, beginning in 2004 Wackman obtained marijuana and cocaine from sources in New York City for distribution in Maryland. Witnesses testified that they saw Wackman cooking powder cocaine into crack. In May, 2005 West Virginia police searched a residence used by Wackman to sell drugs and found two kilograms of marijuana, scales, packaging materials, three guns and $10,000 in cash. In June 2006, an associate of Wackman working with DEA agents made a controlled purchase of cocaine and marijuana from Wackman at his residence in Hagerstown. In July 2006, Wackman attempted to pick up a package containing a kilogram of powder cocaine from UPS in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

At sentencing, Wackman was found to have obtained over 100 kilograms of marijuana, five kilograms of cocaine, and 50 grams of crack cocaine during the course of his drug dealing activities.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Washington County Narcotics Task Force, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Martinsburg Police Department in West Virginia for their investigative work. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys Stephanie Gallagher, Bryan Giblin and Michael Hanlon, who prosecuted this Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force case.
