Temple Hills Drug Dealer Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison On Gun and Drug Charges
Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. sentenced Rodney Erik Bryant, age 32, of Temple Hills, Maryland, today to 20 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute powder and crack cocaine; and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Judge Williams enhanced Bryant’s sentence upon finding that he is a career offender based on three previous narcotics convictions and convictions for assault and stealing a car.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Acting Special Agent in Charge Joseph Riehl of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; and Chief Roberto L. Hylton of the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Chief Roberto Hylton of the Prince George’s County Police Department commented, “Rodney Bryant is clearly a menace to the law abiding residents of his Temple Hills neighborhood, as is demonstrated by the lengthy sentence imposed today. We will continue to work with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to federally prosecute our most dangerous criminals.”
According to Bryant’s guilty plea, on December 23, 2008, members of the Prince George’s County Police Department Narcotics Enforcement executed a search warrant at Bryant’s Temple Hills home. Officers stationed outside the house saw Bryant open a ground floor window and place items outside. Bryant was located in the basement bedroom and arrested. Outside the house officers recovered: a bag containing approximately 557 grams of cocaine and 57 grams of marijuana; and a shoebox with an additional 1288 grams of marijuana. In the bedroom where Bryant was located officers recovered: 114 grams of crack cocaine; 120 grams of marijuana; 2 grams of heroin; a Star Model Firestar .40 caliber pistol; drug paraphernalia; five cellular telephones; and tally sheets with a calculator.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys Christen A. Sproule and Jonathan Su, who prosecuted the case.
