Redby man sentenced for possessing a stolen 12-gauge shotgun

MINNEAPOLIS—Earlier today in federal court, a 19-year-old Redby man was sentenced for possessing a stolen 12-gauge shotgun. United States District Court Chief Judge Michael J. Davis sentenced Damien Charles Jones to 30 months in prison on one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Jones was indicted on September 12, 2011, and pleaded guilty on December 7, 2011.
In his plea agreement, Jones admitted that on January 11, 2011, he possessed the shotgun, knowing it was stolen. In addition, the shotgun had a barrel less than 18 inches long, which is also against the law. Police recovered the gun after responding to a report of “shots fired” in the area.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Red Lake Tribal Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin S. Ueland.
