Virginia, Minnesota, man sentenced for Conspiring to distribute methamphetamine

MINNEAPOLIS—Today in federal court, a 33-year-old man from the northern Minnesota community of Virginia was sentenced for conspiring to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. United States District Chief Judge Michael J. Davis sentenced Jeffrey Donald Doig to 120 months in federal prison on one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and 10 months in prison, to be served consecutively, for violating the conditions of his supervised release stemming from a prior federal drug conviction in 2005. Doig, who was indicted on July 11, 2012, pleaded guilty on September 11, 2012.
In his plea agreement, Doig admitted that from the fall of 2011 through May 2, 2012, he conspired with others to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Doig also acknowledged that on May 2, 2012, he possessed 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Boundary Waters Drug Task Force and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M.
