FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 12, 2012
MINNEAPOLIS—Recently in federal court in St. Paul, a 31-year-old Crystal man was indicted for possessing with intent to distribute 398 grams of methamphetamine. On July 10, 2012, Julian Ruiz Lozano was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The indictment alleges that on March 6, 2012, Lozano possessed with intent to distribute 50 or more grams of high-purity methamphetamine. During the execution of a state search warrant at Lozano’s apartment on March 6, 2012, officers found the methamphetamine, a scale, packaging materials, a .357-caliber pistol, and approximately $30,000.
If convicted, Lozano faces a potential maximum penalty of life in prison. All sentences will be determined by a federal district court judge. This case is the result of an investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Julie E. Allyn.

An indictment is a determination by a grand jury that there is probable cause to believe that offenses have been committed by a defendant. A defendant, of course, is presumed innocent until he or she pleads guilty or is proven guilty at trial.
