FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 5, 2012

MINNEAPOLIS—Yesterday in federal court, a 30-year-old man was sentenced for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. United States District Court Judge Donovan W. Frank sentenced Oscar Adolfo Lopez Macias to 58 months in prison on one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a methamphetamine. Macias, who was indicted on November 14, 2011, pleaded guilty on January 18, 2012.

In his plea agreement, Macias admitted that from October 1, 2011, to his arrest on October 14, 2011, he conspired with others to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. Macias agreed to transport a large quantity of methamphetamine from California to Minnesota, where he planned to distribute it. He admitted that he helped load approximately five kilograms of methamphetamine into the minivan that he then drove to Minnesota. During the trip, Macias was in contact with the individual in Minnesota to whom he intended to distribute the methamphetamine.

This case was the result of an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Minnesota State Patrol. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey M. Bryan. To learn more about the harmful effects of methamphetamine, visit
